Room

Warm late daylight lengthened across these wooden floors
either today or yesterday, I'm not sure when.

I waited through the lengthening across this place, soft
yellowing light. I had to do something I don't want to repeat

& don't know why I can't avoid it here, in the porous
forking woodwork of my head & its outcroppings.

Different People

A child with a cat's head said
Hello in passing to passers-by

all that season we were
sustained by others' means,

having ourselves already gone
by at least once a day

for what felt like forever, while
a child with a bird's head

smiled & spread out wings.
Its feathers were different

colors, each feather somebody
else every other person

ended up someone else
spread wide out.
